The Project
Magner Financial had a concept. They were experts in their field, one of the very few financial
service providers that understood the complex world of non-qualified deferred compensation plans
for executives. They had a desire to take that expertise to the internet in the form of a web-based
sales tool. They selected Breakthrough Technologies because of their business acumen as well as their
technology know-how.
The result was Deferral+, a web-based sales production tool designed to simplify the process of delivering
non-qualified 401K-like plans to corporations and high net worth individuals. Customized from the ground
up, Breakthrough quickly enlisted the help of DNA Design to come up with a look and feel that aligned with
Magner’s market. Once a look was chosen, the rest was pure technology.
The site boasts an array of strategic features including an online sales process, a custom graphing engine,
calculators, dynamic content, a document generation engine that builds custom legal specs for contracts, a
secure administrative facility to manage news, content, users, and accounts, and a library of PDF and Word
documents. Understanding that Magner was a company that intended to grow quickly, Breakthrough architected
the product from the ground up for scalability, modularity, and performance. Each component can deploy
across multiple servers. The database can quickly move to a clustered environment. Session state is managed
across an array of web servers. Even the graphing engine can extend to multiple computers. The product took
just 6 months to deliver from conception to reality. The platform has also been used to deliver a derivative
product called HR+.
