The Project

Telular provides technology and monitoring services for the commercial alarm industry. Embracing a new proprietary technology would leap them above the competition, but it would require a large-scale development effort to integrate the various technologies into a cohesive package. Breakthrough Technologies and Matrix Labs were chosen to deliver their state of the art TelGuard II radio product and central station architecture.

Matrix and BTI teamed together to build one of the most complex alarm delivery systems in the business. From the ground up, a new radio was designed to deliver messages across the data channel supported on cellular networks. At the central station, a new foundation was built. Leveraging Microsoft’s clustering technologies and the latest rapid application development tools, Breakthrough and Matrix architected, coded, tested, and deployed four integrated systems to provide a total solution to Telular.

The entire system took 8 months to build. A clustered database runs the core of the system. Remote workstations run the customer service application to monitor activity and handle billing. Messaging workstations route alarm traffic from an IP network into the system for processing. Rack-based call delivery systems route alarms from the remote panels to central monitoring stations throughout the US. A web-based account maintenance tool is used by dealers to perform account inquiry and page radios in the field. Finally, a voice response system utilizing DTMF allows installers in the field to bring a new customer online quickly.

The system was awarded Best New Product from the International Security Council Show and remains one of the leading technology offerings in the industry.
