Aquipt MatterPoint
MatterPoint was designed specifically to address the challenges of managing the sheer volume of matter specific reference material (images, native files, video, etc.) as an alternative to purchasing hardware or engaging expensive legal hosting providers.
”Aquipt leverages 20-years of industry expertise to create dedicated offerings that help law firms and litigation support organizations overcome the challenges related to the specific IT realities of the Legal sector.
Their latest offering called MatterPoint started with a simple question to us back in 2009..
Is there a way to harness the acceleration, security, and reliability of Breakthrough's file transfer technology to access remote matter data sets as if they were present on the local LAN?
”At the time the simple answer was no, but believing in Aquipt's vision and capabilities, we decided to build a new product offering to address the specific needs of their market.
The result is Breakthrough Drive, a revolutionary product that combines the speed of a wan accelerator with the security of a FIPS 140-2 encrypted connection to provide fast, transparent random access to remote file archives.
It's simple, reliable, super secure, and very fast.
After 6 months of development, and another 6 months in working beta, Aquipt's latest offering went live in late 2010.
How it Works
The MatterPoint solution works by embedding Breakthrough Drive on a Windows-based server and deploying it as a local appliance at the customer location.
The Drive system communicates with a Breakthrough Vault deployed at Aquipt's redundant data center, securely sharing volumes of remote folders and files virtualized as locally-accessible folders and files on the appliance.
An industry-standard network share is configured on the appliance with local security permissions (i.e., Active Directory) applied by the customer. Applications residing on the customer's local network simply point to the network share and access files normally.
Several key features differentiate Drive from alternative approaches:
- Not a VPN, so no back-channel IP vulnerabilities exist
- Utilizes a FIPS 140-2 encrypted connection for all communications
- Remote data is read-only and non-corruptable, perfect for compliance
- Unaware of customer's confidential security policies
- File data is never physically present on Drive's disk system
- Acceleration and caching deliver LAN-like performance
Licensed Technologies
